2019 Hubble Space Telescope Advent Calendar

Time once more for one of my favorite holiday traditions: the 12th annual Hubble Space Telescope Advent Calendar. Every day until Wednesday, December 25, this page will present one new incredible image of our universe from NASA’s Hubble telescope. Be sure to come back every day until the 25th, or follow on Twitter (@ TheAtlPhoto) or Facebook for daily updates.

Now this is a fantastic holiday tradition – the 12th annual Hubble Space Telescope Advent Calendar! I’d love to learn more about astrophotography. I might have to make that a resolution for 2020. Here are a few sky shots I’ve made over the years, though nothing like Hubble, of course! There’s a dark sky reserve in Idaho, not too far from where I live, but my favorite place for skygazing is southeastern Oregon’s desert country where there are more antelope than people for vast stretches. I tried to capture the star trails on a Thanksgiving vacation to Wisconsin last year, but there was quite a bit of light pollution. I also love photographing clouds. Did you know that there’s actually a Cloud Appreciation Society?

Where’s your favorite dark sky place and what’s your preferred gear? Favorite tips, tricks & resources?
