Churchill, Manitoba, Canada, is known as the polar bear capital of the world. Each year the great creatures migrate there to reach the Hudson Bay sea ice and the hunting platforms critical for their survival.
Photographer Martina Tarquini of Avezzano, Italy traveled there last fall on a workshop with renowned photographer and conservationist Luca Bracali. Unfortunately, in our warming world, the ancient bears are struggling. (See my previous blog post here about Luca’s National Geographic reportage from the trip on how climate change is impacting the bears).
I had the privilege of meeting Martina in person in Rome recently and it’s truly an honor to share some of the beautiful images she made while in Churchill.
